Databac celebrates 50th anniversary with new branding and website

ID solutions provider and card manufacturer Databac Group celebrated its 50th anniversary with a brand new look and revamped website. The company, founded in 1970, has grown from a local business offering laminated cards to an international organisation with a wealth of experience in all aspects of identification technologies.

To mark this milestone, Databac has developed a new logo and created a new website which better reflect the company as it is today – a dynamic, experienced and global player in the security industry.

“Databac’s growth has followed the evolution of the security market for half a century. The industry has little in common with the days of punch-hole Hollerith cards, which we made during our early days,” commented Databac CEO Charles Balcomb. “The world today is much more connected, with sophisticated solutions that are highly secure, personalisable and multi-functional. Our new look represents who we are now: a specialist partner for our clients, empowering them to manage their security needs through our identification solutions, with an emphasis on sustainability.”

The anniversary coincided with an unprecedented situation provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. To help manage the situation, Databac has incorporated new hygiene and safety solutions into its portfolio, ranging from anti-microbial card holders to touch-free biometrics with mask detection.

Databac’s evolution builds on its ability to adapt to a changing world. This agility is reflected in its dual business model of own manufacture with sourcing from qualified partners. The factory in Surrey, UK, produces bespoke, multi-functional cards, while the facility in Barcelona, Spain, has a bureau dedicated to card personalisation and encoding. These operations are complemented by identification systems, printers, readers, software and accessories from its global network of strategic partners.

The full range of solutions and services can be discovered on the new website, www.databac.com, boasting the fresh new look of the company’s rebrand.

Cowtribe, an animal health solutions provider in Africa, is leveraging mobile technology to provide livestock farmers with reliable access to veterinary services using their smartphones. The company’s innovative, cloud-based system speeds up delivery of vaccines and other animal health services. Card manufacturer Databac Group is providing near-field communication (NFC) cards to identify the farmers and share data on their livestock’s health history.“Databac’s cards perfectly integrate with our system. They make it incredibly easy and quick to call up information. The farmers also love showing them off. Many do not have passports or drivers’ licences, so they also serve as their ID,” said CowTribe co-founder Peter Awin. “Databac is giving us its support in this crucial development stage. It is technology like this that will help farmers get out of poverty.”

Established in March 2016 by Awin and Alima Bawah, CowTribe runs a proprietary platform which tracks the health statistics of each animal, reminds farmers when it is time for vaccination and manages the logistics of delivery. Aiming to improve the livelihoods of last-mile farmers in particular, CowTribe’s system currently serves around 30,000 individuals, treating them as 150 communities and thereby giving them access to services previously unreachable to them. The social enterprise is currently expanding the system to include the use of NFC cards.

Following an introduction by startup accelerator Fledge in Barcelona, Spain, Databac donated a direct-to-card printer and ribbons to support the ambitious project. Databac also manufactured 13.56MHz NFC cards pre-printed with CowTribe’s branding.

Livestock owners are issued with a card which holds the farmer’s information and serves as a wallet for mobile payment. When placed at the back of a smartphone, the card calls up the farmer’s file, allowing the field agent to read and update the information, including the number of animals and their vaccination history.

The NFC cards are being used by approximately 1,000 last-mile poultry farmers. Once the pilot phase is complete, cards will be issued to all members, including those of organisations such as the Ghana National Association of Cattle Farmers (GNACAF) and commercial farmers.

CowTribe’s nationwide system is providing a successful solution to the death rate of goat, sheep, chicken and cattle in Ghana. With time, it hopes to reach all of the one million-plus farmers throughout the country.

Databac managing director Charles Balcomb said: “CowTribe is having a real impact on reducing livestock mortality and increasing the income of farmers in Ghana. Alima and Peter are showing how business and technology can successfully serve to benefit communities – even in the remotest regions of the world. We are proud that our cards are part of their efforts.”

About CowTribe

CowTribe is Ghana’s first mobile-enabled, on-demand service platform for veterinary extension. It is 100% powered by mobile technology enabling millions of farmers in remote places to request veterinary services using their cell phones and enjoy door-to-door delivery through a network of certified veterinarians. CowTribe targets the over 300 million smallholder farmers living in remote areas in Africa without access to quality and affordable livestock services. Its mission is to make veterinary healthcare accessible every livestock farmer in Africa by building the technological infrastructure to support last-mile delivery.
16th April 2019

A single card has the power to deliver real-time movement intelligence. A ground-breaking solution by Unif.id and delivered by Databac Group harnesses that power to turn any site into a smart building. Comprising a web platform, sensors and NFC cards, Unif.id provides zone-by-zone location data of all people on the premises. In case of an emergency, it facilitates evacuation and can issue instant alerts to any mobile device to advise on what to do or where to go

Gather valuable intelligen

The intelligence gathered by the system is invaluable for improved management and protection of staff and visitors. The concept of movement intelligence goes beyond geo-location, to embrace access control, time recording and even loyalty. In a retail setting, for example, individual offers can be sent to customers when they approach a particular store. Unifi.id is able to integrate with existing systems, so there is no need to replace them

The solution, which takes around a week to install, is easy to implement and use. Sensors are placed in strategic locations, designed to pick up long-range radio frequency signals from NFC cards issued to all who use the premises. These signals are sent to a web platform, where they can be analysed thanks to IoT technologie

Manage emergencies effective

A core benefit of the technology is the ability to deliver accurate information about the occupancy of large commercial buildings during emergency situations such as fires and security breaches – a benefit that particularly impacts high-rise buildings. Providing detailed analysis on the movement of staff members from floor to floor, as well as highlighting the position of any people with disabilities or access issues, the technology provides the emergency services with unparalleled insight

Create operational efficienci

The analytical software shows how a building is used. With real-time intelligence, businesses can optimise the space on their premises. Air-conditioning, heating and lighting can be adapted according to the daily or hourly use of each zone. Under-used spaces can be identified and repurposed. Cleaning schedules can be planned for times when areas are less occupied. The software also sends predictive alerts when areas require maintenance based on usage and footfall

In effect, movement data enables patterns to be detected, not only of people, but of products, too, which can be tagged. Pattern analysis has a knock-on effect for universities, as student attendance can be tracked and called up at the click of a mouse. Under-attendance can be flagged up so students can be given appropriate guidance, while hard data is available in a flexible format to help demonstrate the institution’s performanc

Communicate with people on the premis

What is unique about the Unifi.id system is that it operates with a battery-free device and is capable of working at a great distance. This means it can send messages to card wearers in real-time, via any mobile device. With no need to download, tap or sign into anything, there are no barriers to communication

As such, the IoT system can deliver automated alerts to all occupants in emergencies, to supervise an evacuation. In university buildings, it can notify students of a change of time or classroom, to send a new wi-fi key and much mor

For security purposes, the solution provides photographic alerts to operations and concierge staff, so they can identify individuals as they arrive into each section of the buildin

Manage ‘vertical’ grow

Improved security and protection, greater efficiency, informed business decisions; the benefits of Unifi.id are clear and can, quite literally, be life-saving. As cities continue to grow skywards, safety measures become more challenging. High-rise buildings have their own unique characteristics and must be managed accordingly. Unifi.id is designed to handle such environments in the most efficient and secure way.thg.e..ese..es.lys..ce.
