Councillor Mary Heathcote OBE, the Mayor of Kingston upon Thames, today visited the European headquarters and secure manufacturing facility of ID specialist Databac Group in Kingston, Surrey, UK. The visit was part of the Mayor’s ongoing efforts to support the local business community.
“I believe that independent businesses and retailers have a vital role to play within our local community at a time when cheap labour abroad can tempt many of our companies overseas. It is heartening to visit Databac as it bucks this trend, remaining here in the centre of Kingston and contributing so much to the local economy,” she said.
“This is especially the case when, as a manufacturing company, it draws on and benefits from the highly skilled workforce that is to be found in the Royal Borough. As we see a record number of SMEs (small- to medium-sized enterprises) establishing themselves in Kingston I applaud Databac for the fine example it sets and look forward to many more following in its footsteps.”
Databac has been manufacturing polyester cards in Kingston, Surrey, UK, since 1970. The cards can be produced with a number of technologies for use with loyalty, access control, time and attendance and other systems. They are made on demand for companies, governments and organisations worldwide, sold from Databac’s offices in the UK and Spain, as well as through a network of approved distributors.
Databac holds clearances for the production of cards by the MoD and the Stationery Office (formerly HMSO). In addition, the company operates a quality management system under ISO9001:2008. It is also ISO14001:2004-certified for environmental management and holds the Carbon Smart award for efforts in reducing its impact on the environment.
The Mayor was greeted by MD Charles Balcomb, financial director Linda Richards and general manager Alain Picard. During her visit she met with many of the workers in the factory and spoke a few words of appreciation and support.
